In some cases you may not have the end user's full address and contact information during license creation although you are interested to have that information to guarantee optimal support to your license holders. The end user helps you to accomplish by providing his full contact information when registering the software.

Registration is mandatory for serial number licenses because the software will only run for a certain trial period without registration. After expiration the end user needs to register with the valid serial number you have provided to him. During registration process he must provide all the contact information by filling and submitting a certain registration form.

Registration is optional for dongle license holders because the license information is burned onto the USB-Dongle hardware and does not require further registration. The license is valid as long as the dongle is connected to the end user's PC. However with software/product version 2.x (or higher) the user is prompted on start-up of the application to register on a voluntary basis. The probability is good to get the contact information from the end user like this.

In both cases the contact information is kept together with the license history. You will be informed by a separate email whenever a license have been activated or contact information has been submitted by a customer. You will receive an email with the contact information similar to that one shown above in the license update email.
